Reliable fiction

One of my daily exercises is watching the Colbert Report. Comedy Central makes no claim about its accuracy. The only difference between cable news and the Daily Show and The Colbert Report is that the latter two shows are billed as entertainment. The substance is approximately the same. If you didn’t a chance to see last night’s piece on the Path to 9/11 follow this link.

  1. Don,

Peace and All Good! I too am a follower of St. Francis, an educator, and a certified basketball junkie. I have been on retreat at Mt. Ireneaus in La Posada.

Over the past few weeks I have been a regular reader of your reflections and I have a profound appreciation for your spiritual ponderings.

I strongly oppose the War in Iraq. However,I was quite struck by today’s post in a curious way. “Crooks and Liars”? Rather divisive, no?cr

  2. I don’t see what is divisive. I see only humor. Colbert helps to keep me sane. I see lots of divisiveness on network and cable news shows. I see the talking heads accentuating our differences. It’s almost like they get the Republican talking points disseminated to them.

I enjoy Colbert and in particular this comment on the “Path to 9/11” because it was a satire of much of what passed as journalism on the other news outlets.

  3. We can agree to disagree, my brother. I see “Crooks and Liars” and a divisive instrument intended to lob insults at political opponents.
I don’t see humor in portraying Eric Massa as a terrorist—in fact, I find it revolting. I suppose I have the same feelings towards, “Crooks and Liars”. Such is life, I suppose:)

    Paz y Bien!
