A couple of days ago I wrote about the increasingly sad state of our nation. New numbers taken from a Wall Street Journal poll suggest that only 19% of the American people believe we are headed in the right direction. That’s even more astounding since the Wall Street Journal isn’t exactly a liberal rag. Most folks that read the WSJ are money makers and folks who have benefited from the Bush Administration fiscal policies. Follow this link to a piece that comes from NBC and Think Progress. I think the truth of the matter is that we’re on the verge of another American Revolution. The very reasons this country came to be in the first place, “taxation without representation,” are again forefront on our landscape. It has been two hundred and thirty-one years since Thomas Jefferson penned these immortal words.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government….
I hope this will be a peaceful change.
