A chill wind

There’s a chill wind blowin’ in Washington today as Army Vice Chief of Staff told congress that you either change course or start the draft and/or face a broken army. I’m not in favor of the draft and neither are the politicians as it would spell doom to their endless war. I’d be in favor of drafting “chickenhawks.” The more vocal you are as a supporter of war the greater your opportunity to see combat ought to be. I’ll bet we’d see a growth of pacifism in this country. Five time deferred Dick Cheney never served, and our Commander-in-chief was AWOL for part of his tour. I’d like to see Joe Lieberman, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh join. Rush avoided military service because he had a cyst on his rump during Vietnam. Read more of what General Cody said here.

  1. Draft all right wingers or anyone who votes Republican. All else must be exempt. That will stop all of Bush’s war ambitions.

  2. I’m afraid it isn’t just Republicans. There are plenty of Democrats who voted for this war crime and now are complicit in its continuation. There are only a few who didn’t vote to authorize force which everyone knew would result in a U.S. invasion.

A renewed draft won’t solve the problem. It will be unfair just as the last conscription was. Our economy is tanking and I believe it might be very serious. The silver lining of collapsed economy would be a discontinuation of our warlike tendencies.

Every empire has its day and perhaps our empire is waning.
