Satyagraha

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall — think of it, ALWAYS!–Mahatma Gandhi.

This gives me hope when thinking of the Iraq War and war in general. What passes as Christianity in much of the west today is a negation of the Sermon on the Mount. Gandhi really got the message of Christ and he practiced it in his life. Gandhi’s Satyagraha or soul-force is the not only based in large part on the principles of the Sermon on the Mount, it also the only effective instrument to end the reign of terror and war in our world. Gandhi saw Satyagraha as being more than just superior to the force of arms, he saw it as the guiding force of the universe. Weapons systems and war machines can never bring true democracy or peace. They bring instead more war, violence and chaos.
