Never too much

I’ve been listening to music on my IPod all summer. An IPod has really revolutionized music for me. My new PT Cruiser has an audio jack that lets me play music whenever I’m in the car. Tonight my wife and I drove to Fredonia, New York to have dinner with our son and daughter. Our daughter is a junior at Fredonia State. Our son was there for the weekend for a benefit golf tournament for a former teammate who died tragically three years ago just prior to the young man’s senior year. On our way to Fredonia we listened to some comedy tracks from Bill Maher and on the way home we listened to an assortment of music. One of the songs that was in that assortment is “Never Too Much” by Luther Vandross. Luther was one of the greatest R&B vocalists. I put him on the same plane as Lionel Richie and Marvin Gaye. Whenever I hear the catchy melody and lyrics of “Never too Much” I think of my wife and our own courtship and continuing love affair. She was and is the girl who opened my heart.

I can’t fool myself, I don’t want nobody else to ever love me
You are my shinin’ star, my guiding light, my love fantasy
There’s not a minute, hour, day or night that I don’t love you
You’re at the top of my list ’cause I’m always thinkin’ of you

I still remember in the days when I scared to touch you
How I spent my day dreamin’ plannin’ how to say I love you
You must have known that I had feelings deep enough to swim in That’s when you opened up your heart and you told me to come in
