Today was timeout. A day of silent retreat in my own hermitage. Today I read a book that’s been around for a relatively long time. I was aware of some of the principles in the book and I even practice them in my daily life, but I had forgotten to be gentle with myself and today was the day for that.

I work in a corporate culture where resistance to change is omnipresent. Incessant reading has led me to believe over the years that most folks don’t change because they’re comfortable doing what they’re doing. This old story illustrates that the myopia of that sort of thinking. Jalal ad-Din Rumi, a Persian poet and mystic once said, “Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment.”
Bullshit bingo
Nowadays there is no shortage of bullshit in the workplace. We’ve replaced common language with an endless stream of verbiage whose sole purpose seems to obscure any real communication from occurring. It doesn’t matter if you’re watching television, visiting your child’s teacher, listening to a salesman or hearing the President of the United States, bullshit rules.
