I came across a well written piece today in my net travels and I thought it was worth pointing you in that direction. “The center isn’t holding so well here, either. When idealists of both parties ran away from politics–under the impact of Watergate, fundamentalism, corruption, conservative smear tactics, and general apathy–the center became hollow. Just recently in Congress the Republicans blocked the renewal of voting rights, refused to raise the minimum wage, gave a windfall to the very richest people through the estate tax, and endorsed a military presence in Iraq with no scheduled end in sight. . Is it possible that average Americans, who see themselves as centrists, could agree with this kind of governance?”
