As I drove down the road from the Franciscan Mountain Retreat this morning I stopped at the intersection of Roberts and Weatherby roads to look at a little mountain stream that frequently catches my eye. Today its beauty was enhanced by the fresh coat of snow and a thin coat of ice on its surface. “He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul.” My soul has been restored today and I’m ready for another day and maybe for the week. My prayers are with the soldiers in Iraq who face death at every moment. I can’t help but be concerned for the Iraqi and Afghan people who have been slaughtered in our wars. Will they soon be joined by Iranians in our misguided plans. I hope not. I pray not. I carry a chaplet with me everyday. It was given to me by a friend. It’s a ten bead rosary that reminds me to pray. I pray each day asking the intercession of Our Lady. I pray for Dustin Owen, Jim Close, Shane Brisky, Martin Hatch and other young men who are in harms way. I think of how fortunate I am to live where there is no war.
