I’ve just finished viewing the “River of Secrets” on CNN and I’m convinced more than ever of the futility of war. This is a gripping story that doesn’t glorify the War in Iraq. It doesn’t demonize our incompetent national leadership who lied our way into this conflict and put these and thousands of other young men and women in harm’s way. Our great country is doomed to repeat the fate of ancient Rome and every other nation that has ever worshiped war. That is exactly what we do here in the United States of America. We worship war and violence and we point our fingers at Hollywood and the so-called liberal press. The real villains and demons are our own fascination with war, weapons and a culture of death that puts more value on weapon systems that we do on programs of social uplift. Forty years ago, Martin Luther King said that we were approaching spiritual death because of this emphasis. How much longer will we continue to waste our precious resources of human creativity in the dead end of war?
How many more young men and women must be sacrificed before this blood lust is quenched? We aren’t advancing freedom or democracy. We aren’t ending terrorism. Violence only begets violence. I honor the memory of the four young U.S. Marines who were memorialized in this tribute and I pray for healing for their parents and families. When will the American people demand an end to the carnage? When will we say enough is enough? Our president has a heart of stone, pray that God gives him a heart of flesh soon. “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the heart of stone, and I will give you an heart of flesh.” –Ezekiel 36:26
