As a veteran of the Vietnam era and a dedicated peace worker I’m always skeptical of the government’s rationale for war. War’s only profiteers are the workers and owners of the military armaments production facilities.
Philosophy
Well said..
I came across this video on TalkingPointsMemo. It’s to the point and part of what is wrong with both Democrats and Republicans. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRnAUFMSUZc]

When I was a child I grew up next to the Arcade Library. I learned how to read at school and I’m blessed with enough intelligence and a sense of curiosity to wonder how things work. I spent hours each week at the library as a child learning how to read and gather more information and vicarious experiences from the authors I read. I even learned skills out of books, but most of the time I needed visual models. Before the World Wide Web was born I would curl up with encyclopedias at work and read them. I’m really fascinated with learning about the world we live in.
No Room at the Inn
This short video clip chronicles some of the unbelievable devastation of the Kensington area of Philadelphia. We should have a new war on terror that focuses on the terror that our nation’s poor and homeless face each day.
Could you please help our 9/11 heroes?
I saw a nice message on Huffington Post and I thought it deserved even more air time and coverage. Thanks to Michael Moore for taking the time to really care about the heroes of 9/11 who’ve been neatly forgotten by the politicians who never tire from the political mileage they attempt to leverage for their … Read more

Today’s politicians are focused on “important issues” like gay rights, gay marriage and abortion. The media has a larger story to tell about Paris Hilton and other celebrities. The MSM can’t be … Read more
Giving
Today was timeout. A day of silent retreat in my own hermitage. Today I read a book that’s been around for a relatively long time. I was aware of some of the principles in the book and I even practice them in my daily life, but I had forgotten to be gentle with myself and today was the day for that.
Thoughts
Today’s paper has an article about how the United States culture has strayed from the original intent of the founding fathers. In particular the author was taking umbrage with the interpretation of the establishment clause of the United States Constitution. Many so-called conservative Christians are quick to point out that God is mentioned frequently by the founding fathers and that this country was founded on a Judeo-Christian tradition.
Sad Sack
Andrew Sullivan has a well written short piece on his blog today about Mr. Bush and the war in Iraq. Mr. Bush is a sad sack of humanity that managed to get himself elected President of the United States. He has violated nearly every principle that he once said he stood for. He’s also violated every principle that he has sworn to protect.
Do not resist an evil person
Nowadays, much of what passes as patriotism is actually fanaticism. In some quarters our attempts to combat fanatical forces that oppose us has actually engendered a movement towards fanaticism. I read this quote from Thomas Merton tonight and reflected on its message for today.
