In today’s news there is word from General Petraeus, the latest pawn in Game Iraq that we’re succeeding in a new surge against Al-Qaida strongholds. I say that is essentially meaningless crap. A friend of mine used to say, “crap is crap and the square root of crap is still crap.”
Philosophy
Did you know?
I’ve seen the following presentation a number of times and each time I come away with something a little different. I love the music but I love the thoughts highlighted by the music. I work in a small school system that is populated with students, teachers, administrators and parents. In many ways our school is a place where children go for formation.
Thoughts
Too busy to write until now. I’ve all but stopped listening to what passes as news. I continue to skim Huffington, Think Progress and some other blogs. It’s getting late and I’ve just tuned into Game 3 of the Cleveland-San Antonio NBA Finals. I’m pulling for Cleveland, but they’re down 2-0 and trailing going into the fourth quarter of Game 3.
Business for Human Beings
Ubuntu is the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity. It’s a unique and timely concept. Ubuntu’s slogan, “Linux for human beings,” is an extension of the concept. Imagine such a radical concept as an active concern for all humanity and even the world itself. It almost sounds like a concept advanced by St. Francis of Assisi.
Fully engaged
Winning is important to me, but what brings me real joy is the experience of being fully engaged in whatever I’m doing. Phil Jackson I like Phil Jackson and I like this quote. One of my favorite books is Sacred Hoops:Spiritual Lessons of a Hardwood Warrior. There’s more than basketball to that book.
We are all one
St. Francis of Assisi saw all creation as brother and sister and bearing the imprint of the Most High. That’s an abstract concept and not easily seen or even practiced. Tonight I heard a fellow speak of DNA and how we’re all comprised of the same elements. Not long ago while reading a book by Thich Nhat Hanh he spoke of looking deeply and seeing ancestors in each of us and all of us.
I am fortunate too
This came in the mail from Gratefulness.org Everyday, think as you wake up: Today I am fortunate to have woken up. I am alive. I have a precious human life. I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself to expand my heart out to others … Read more
Attitude of Gratitude
I’ve long heard it said that an attitude of gratitude is one of the secrets of a healthy, happy life. This post at Lifehack.org really sums that up and I thought it was worth sharing. In today’s hectic and competitive world, there is so much negativity floating around that it is easy to get taken … Read more
Open or closed?
A friend of mine commented on a post I had about Ubuntu and Dell and in that he said that Linux is like the wiki concept. Maybe the wiki concept is more like Linux and open source. Regardless of how one looks at either, open source is an new model of production which favors the wiki model of code and content creation. It seems that the latter has the potential for more power and at the same time has created a great deal of destabilization in the traditional market place. It seems however that this new model is here to stay at least for the short term. Whatever replaces it will grow out of it and not the old industrial age model of a closed system.
